Wooden window blinds are made from many types of woods such as cedar, oak, beech, basswood and so on. Wood blinds look very elegant and beautiful and are usually custom made so that their texture and look matches that of the rest of a home. Faux wood blinds are another type of “wooden blind” available in the market. Although they resemble wood blinds a lot in their look, faux wood blinds are not actually made from wood. Faux wood blinds are usually made from vinyl or a composite of vinyl and wood. They are cheaper compared to wood blinds and are therefore useful for people who have a lower budget, but want the look of wood on their window blinds.

Faux wood blinds are heavier and flimsier than real wood blinds, but unlike real wood blinds they don’t crack, split or warp. Faux wood blinds have a much higher resistance to moisture and humidity and because of this, faux wood blinds are washable and therefore a much better alternative to real wood blinds in wet and humid places like bathrooms and kitchens. They are also better in places with pets or children, where blinds are often prone to getting scratched. However faux wood blinds come in fewer colors and sizes when compared to wood blinds.

Brands of wooden blinds available include “Olympian” from M&B, and the “Traditions” line from Graber blinds. Faux wood blinds include “Visions” from Levolor and “Lake Forest” from Graber blinds.
