There are few people who don’t love eating salmon, and for good reason. Farmed salmon is a very tasty fish, and moreover there are many health benefits in eating it. Both wild and farm raised salmon contain large amounts of vitamin D that boost body immunity and help protect against many diseases. Farmed salmon also contains Omega-3 fatty acids that are good for the mind and also the heart, because they help in reducing depression and risk of heart attacks. Farmed salmon is also a good source of protein.

Salmon is prepared and eaten in many ways. Canned salmon and smoked salmon are two popular ways of preparing farmed salmon for consumption. Of these, smoked salmon is salmon that has been cured and then subjected to either hot smoking or cold smoking. The difference between hot smoked salmon and cold smoked salmon lies in the temperature at which the fish is smoked. In cold smoking, the emphasis is on curing the fish through prolonged exposure to smoke at lower temperatures ranging from 80 to 90°F. Hot smoking relies on heat more than smoke to cure the salmon and involves higher temperatures of above 165°F. These processes also impart slightly different textures and tastes.

Most of the salmon available in the market nowadays is farm raised salmon, but wild salmon is also available. Farm raised salmon are more affordable and also available year round, unlike the wild varieties. This makes it quite easy for anyone to get their hands and mouths on tasty and healthy farm raised salmon, any day of the year.
